With reference to the telegraphic correspond-

-ence copy of which is enclosed, I have the honour to express my

regret that owing to a misunderstanding the £5,000 was exported before the receipt of your reply to my telegram of the 2nd. of November owing to the fact that the export of gold was not at that time prohibited and a satisfactory Declaration of Ultimate

Destination had been furnished. I was not aware of this fact when

I wrote my Despatch No. 380 of the 29th. of Noveber.

Your Confidential Circular Despatch of the 29th. September, 1915, concerning the production of Certificates of the Overseas Trust accepting consignments was only received in the Colony on the 3rd. of November and such a certificate was not demanded as the consignor und had no opportunity of procuring it.
